Mystery of the Dim iPhone Screen Solved… iOS Window Zoom
I thought it was a simple question, that will have a simple answer. Why is my iPhone Pro Max 15 display so dark? It all started when my wife noticed that the display on my iPhone Pro Max 15 seemed unusually dim. She was right. Initially, I brushed it off as a minor issue that I would fix myself. However, over time, troubleshooting did not work and I started to get annoyed. My phone was less than 6 months old and I was not getting the full enjoyment out of it. Even when the brightness setting was set to the max, my display was still far too dim. I kept searching online, and followed numerous recommendations, to no avail. Why is my iPhone screen display so dark?
Trials and Tribulations
I made an appointment with Apple Genius Bar. The Apple Genius Bar tech ran diagnostics on the phone – the results indicated no hardware or software issues. I was told, it may be an issue with the display screen, or possibly, it was an app I downloaded that was causing the issue.
I personally doubted there was an issue with the display screen. And, I have so many apps on my phone – which one was causing the problem? Would I really have to delete and upload each of the apps, one by one, to find the culprit? Because I purchased the iPhone less than a year ago, it was still under the manufacturer’s warranty. So, Apple offered to replace the display screen at no cost. I was informed that replacing the screen was one of five separate steps that had to be done before Apple could give me a new replacement phone. I made an appointment for the screen replacement.
In-house IT - My Wife - Saves the Day
I came home frustrated. By this point, my wife had enough of hearing me talk about my phone issues. She started searching all corners of the web. She finally came across a thread that noted some built-in iPhone features, when on, could cause the phone display to be dim. My wife went to work, on my phone, and then it happened – she discovered the Window Zoom setting. She turned off the Window Zoom feature and instantly, my phone display returned to normal brightness.
iOS features integrated zooming options, empowering users to zoom in seamlessly at any moment with a simple activation. This is an additional feature, to the multi-touch feature that allows you to zoom in or out by pinching or spreading your two fingers. Window Zoom is helpful for situations when the multi-touch feature is not working.
How to Turn Off Window Zoom
I do not recall turning on the Window Zoom feature. I may have done so accidentally or my kids may have done so while playing with my phone. So, if you find yourself with a dim screen display and have exhausted all your options, try turning off the Window Zoom settings in iOS.
First, go to “settings” on your phone, scroll down, and then tap “accessibility.” Next, tap “zoom” and turn it off. This video will help you learn more about the Window Zoom feature. You can also follow the instructions provided by Apple.
