Prepare for Another Season Of Goals, Drama and Glory
It is almost that time! The Premier League 2024/2025 season is back on Saturday, August 17. Yes, there was the exciting Euro 2024 and the Copa America to fill the void, but it’s time once again for the Goals, Drama and Glory of the Premier League. There is much to look forward to this season.
Will Arsenal Finally Beat Its Nemesis?
Is Mikel Arteta and Arsenal going to get their revenge after falling just short of being champions the last two years? Arsenal will have to get past the Goat of football Pep Guardiola. Will Pep continue his dominance and lead Manchester City to their fifth straight championship? With Arteta as coach and with the super star roster it may be Arsenal’s season to win it all. However, as you know, Arsenal excels at bottling the season when it matters most, it is Arsenal after all.
New Coaches to Watch
The Dutchman Arne Slot has huge shoes to fill as the new manager at Liverpool. It is no easy task to fill in for a beloved and successful Jurgen Klopp, who chose to step away from football for the time being.
Enzo Maresca will take over at Chelsea. Maresca will be the 12th coach since December 2015. Chelsea has been a cluster ever since Abramovich was forced to sell the team. Maresca will have his first test against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18 – good luck to him. I personally think Chelsea ownership blew it by letting go of Mauricio Pochettino, who brought some organization to the team and qualified Chelsea for Conference League.
Fabion Hurzeler will take over at Brighton & Hove Albion. He is the youngest Premier League in history.
Promoted Teams
Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton have been promoted. Will they be able to remain in the Premier League? Ipswich Town is coming off back-to-back promotions. The fight at the bottom of the table is just as exciting as the fight at the top.
Will Manchester City Be Penalized?
Last season, Everton and Nottingham Forest received point deductions for breaches of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Will Manchester City finally receive point deductions for the 115 Premier League charges against them, for alleged financial irregularities, some charges date back to 2009. Here are the charges. While the actual findings will likely take place in 2025, it will be very interesting to see if the team is found guilt of wrong doing and what the punishment will be. However, with all the money Manchester City brings to the Premier League, I doubt there will be any penalty that will jeopardize the team staying in the Premier League.
Manchester United
Giant Manchester United had an underwhelming 2023/2024 season, finishing 8th in the league. Despite pulling off a victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup, the writing was on the wall – the manager Erik Ten Hag was out. Then ownership did an about face and Ten Hag’s contract was extended through June 2026. There will be even more pressure on Ten Hag this season and it will be fun to find out if he can turn things.
Time to Tune In
It’s just football, right? No, it’s the Premier League. Tune in.
