About 10 years ago all the working out – or maybe it was age 🙂 – started to catch up with me. I was feeling achy and sore more often. My back, legs, and hips felt tight and sore all the time. I did a few massages and that was okay. But, I needed a cost effective and consistent solution. For so many years, I heard about the benefits of Yoga, but refused to try it. The truth is I was intimidated by it. Fortunately for me, YouTube existed and I finally decided to try Yoga at home for free.
The first several times I did Yoga I hated it. It was much harder than I thought. And, it brought me to the realization that lifting heavy weights at the gym did not translate to a strong and healthy body. But, I refused to quit. For some reason, I stuck with it. It took me months to be able to build strength to properly hold a plank and hold in boat pose. Slowly, I got better and better. I must say I was good at corpse pose.
There was (and still is) an endless amount of free Yoga videos on YouTube. I was able to do Yoga in the comfort of my own home. I spent many years trying different kinds of Yoga on various YouTube channels. I eventually built up the strength and ability to try harder flows. I now prefer Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga. If you want an intense Yoga experience that leaves you with a pump, you can try one of the following sessions. But beware, these are not for beginners.
This is probably my favorite Power Yoga video. Bryan Kest is known as one of the pioneers of Power Yoga. I can never get past level one – there are a total of three videos in this series. I love the positive messages Kest provides during the practice. When I finish the sesion I feel alive – no joke.
The benefits of power yoga are numerous. It can help improve strength, flexibility, and balance, making it a great workout for both the body and mind. Power yoga is also a cardiovascular exercise, helping to improve heart health and endurance. Additionally, the dynamic nature of power yoga can help to relieve stress, improve focus, and promote a sense of well-being. Overall, power yoga offers a comprehensive workout that can benefit both physical and mental health. Power yoga was popularized in the 1990s by two yoga teachers, Beryl Bender Birch and Bryan Kest.
This class is taught by Tim Senesi. Tim Senesi was one of the first YouTube yoga teachers and launched his YouTube channel “Yoga with Tim.” This video can be found on the Yoga Dose channel. Tim will walk you through each Yoga pose to make sure you are in the right position and don’t cheat. Tim knows exactly where the pain points are. I hope that I can do Yoga as good as Caroline (pictured in the video) one day.
You are going to work during this session. Tim Senesi narrates while Francesca does the poses. You will see just how strong (or not strong) your core strength is. And when you’re finished, your spine, hips and legs will feel strong and loose. The only suggestion I have is to skip the handstand (42:34) – for now. Francesca makes it look too easy. I just hold a plank while she does the headstand.
Hope you enjoy these Yoga videos. You can do them in the comfort of your own home and they are free. Let me know what you think.
