Denied and Almost Dismissed: Dealing With A Medical Insurer’s Wrongful Denial Of Medical Treatment

The Absurdity of Dealing With a Medical Insurer’s Wrongful Denial of Necessary Medical Treatment

Medical treatment denial

I’ve been fortunate to have never faced any issues with my health insurance company denying necessary medication or treatments for myself or my immediate family – there was a minor issue with a surface ambulance bill, but it was resolved favorably thanks to my health insurer. However, I am acutely aware of the frustration and outrage felt by many Americans who have had to endure exhausting battles with health insurance companies over the denial of essential medications and treatment for unjust reasons. Unfortunately, my father-in-law recently experienced a nightmare when his new healthcare insurer denied the type-2 diabetes medication he’s relied on for over a decade. I assisted him throughout the entire process in trying to secure the medication he desperately needed. If I did not personally experience this, I would never believe this level of devious and illegitimate bureaucracy. It is easy to understand why so many Americans are disillusioned with the healthcare system disillusioned with the healthcare system. The best way to describe the experience is by sharing the appeal letter I helped him draft. The good news for us — but bad news for the insurance company — is that I took excellent notes during the process.

If you’ve ever had to fight for the care you or a loved one deserves, you’re not alone. And, if you are ever unfairly denied treatment by your medical insurer make sure to appeal the denial and fight. As soon as my father-in-law gets a response to his appeal letter, I will share an update.

Take a look at the letter and let me know your thoughts.

  1. You have to remind yourself that these people you talk to on the phone want to have an easy day at work. If the file is not comprehensive and clear they will tend to put roadblocks so they don’t have to do work, but if you have good documentation and you explain things clearly so they can have an easy day at work you should be ok
