Dressing Stylish Can Be Simple

I know that at times being a parent can be a grind– the exhaustion, the stress of expenses and life’s responsibilities – it is easy not to care about what you wear. I am guilty of this, at times. But, dressing like a dad doesn’t mean compromising on style, and you don’t need a hefty budget to look your best. Just remember, your kids are watching and you want to set an example for them. More importantly, you should dress well for yourself – you want to present yourself in the best way. It is probably simpler than you think. Here are ten simple tips to help you dress like an adult man and be a stylish dad.

1. No Loud Logos or Graphics

Leave this for the college kids

You can be a walking billboard or you can try to scream for attention. But why? This goes for logos and graphics on pants, shirts and shoes. Loud logos make you look like a kid or that you are trying to hard.

2. T-Shirts Are Okay

Plain t-shirts are an excellent and classic option. They can be inexpensive and still look good.

3. No Flip Flops

Not even these

Flip flops at the beach are okay – maybe you are lucky and live on the beach. Flip flops at home are okay. Do not wear them out in public.

4. Avoid Extreme Denim

These are my favorite - Levis 511

Not too baggy. Not too tight. No holes. Here is a good resource, from a fashion expert, to understand how your jeans should fit.

5. A Nice Hoodie Works - Just Don't Overdo It

Things have become much more casual since Covid – not to mention what the tech industry has done to workplace attire.  Hoodies are comfortable and durable. They can also be pricey, but it shows. You probably should not wear a hoodie to work unless you live in San Francisco and work in tech.

6. Skip the Sweats

I was going to say skip the sweats. Apparently, there are some really nice sweat pants! Maybe I can address this another time – are $1100 sweats better than these Russell Athletic sweats? Keep the sweats for home.

7. Wear Button Down Shirts

A main stay of adult men clothing. Preferably tucked in. The biggest issue will be finding shirts that fit properly. I generally have the problem with excess material around my hips and stomach – I have to get my shirts tailored. I do get lucky with shirts from Zara and Boggi.

8. No Worn Out or Stained Clothes

If the clothing item is faded, has wholes or is stained – don’t wear them. I know it is hard to get rid of those really comfy worn sweatshirts – just leave them for the house.

9. No Baggy Shorts

Above the knees

Opt for a slimmer and shorter pair. They will be flattering. They are also comfortable.

10. Embrace Comfortable & Stylish Footwear

Dads on the go need comfortable footwear. Sure, you can get a dad shoe like the Nike Monarch or New Balance 608. But there are so many comfortable and  stylish options.

Invest in a quality pair of stylish sneakers or versatile loafers that provide both comfort and style.
